“And then my soul saw you and it kind of went, O there YOU are, I’ve been looking for you!!”
What other beautiful way could one possibly find to give justice to this made-for-each other couple who took the whole of Tinseltown and its fans like a whirlwind! Who would have thought the most eligible bachelor of Bollywood up until now, after having his fair share of romances would finally settle for an arranged marriage, but his Chosen One could not have complemented him better. Despite the remarkable age gap in the duo, they took the risk of falling in love as their stars had in store for them.
Mira Rajput, a shy and beautiful 21 year old English graduate from Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi University was destined to be the bride of this Kapoor Khandaan and we cannot help admiring the couple ((no matter how much we feel for our broken hearts 😉 ) and bless them with eternal happiness! Knowing each other through the Radha Soami Satsang Group their families are a part of, we can only feel happy for our beloved Shahid for landing his lady love , Finally!!
Like any other big fat Bollywood wedding, it is a no shocker that this wedding too was every bit as glamorous and indulgent as one can expect from it but what struck me most was the inherent simplicity it was still able to sport. From the wedding card to the customized chocolates sent out to the guests who were privileged to partake in the merriment, from the elegant wedding cakes to their catchy note, ‘No gifts, blessings only’ validates the purity of this couples’ soul. Not to mention the extreme precautions taken to keep it a private affair, to keep some essence of normality alive in a celebrity’s wedding. Most importantly their outfits in all the functions speak volumes about it as we shall soon see.
It was a two day event starting from a combined Mehendi and Sangeet celebration on the evening of 6th July at a farmhouse close to the Radha Soami Satsang Beas ashram near Chattarpur itself. Mira chose to have just a small amount of Mehendi applied to her hands in the name of Shahid whilst the groom shied away from it altogether. Mira chose a yellow outfit at the haldi, and accessorized it with a floral neckpiece and tiara(innovative and refreshing indeed!). She chose the same color for her Sangeet wearing an extremely graceful sunflower yellow, benaras brocade lehenga with peach gota patti choli. Light and comfortable with a pretty color combo, this one is the perfect Sangeet outfit.
Shahid sported a maroon Nehru Jacket over a red kurta by designer friend Kunal Rawal looking every bit the regal Prince Charming of our dreams!
The Wedding Ceremony(Anant Karaj): The much-guarded gurudawara style wedding took place at 11 am the next day at West Green Farmhouse Chattarpur, attended by around 40 to 50 guests, according to sources.
Shahid opted for a white kurta-pyjama and a safa (turban) for the marriage, while his bride donned a green and pink salwar-kurta with a dupatta wrapped around her head. She completed her look with a maang-tika on her forehead and subtle make-up. Simple and low-key.
After their wedding on Tuesday (July 7) morning, the couple also attended a celebratory lunch with their families. They changed their ensembles, and while Shahid adorned a pristine white sherwani designed by Kunal Rawal, Mira looked every bit the quintessential bride in a light pink and silver embroidered lehenga with a veil over her head. She sported an elaborate navratna neck-piece and earrings set, and teamed her look with a maang-tika and a jhoomaron on the side of her head. Flowers decked in her hair with soft make-up, she radiated elegance.
The media was, in the midst of it all, kept waiting for a glimpse of the duo since Monday. But their efforts went in vain until the couple came hand-in-hand to greet the paparazzi at Gurgaon’s Trident hotel in the afternoon (first pic above). Later, Shahid shared a ‘selfie’ with his bride on Instagram, and wrote: “#hitched”. Awww!
Delhi Reception, After Party Dinner: Finally the third ensemble of the day(poor couple!) was for the much talked about after party dinner held at The Trident Oberoi ,Udyog Vihar,Gurgaon, the guestlist counting upto a whopping 500!
Shahid was a classic groom in a Kunal Rawal (yet again!) Bandhgala suit and nailed the look completely. Simplicity defines this guy despite his stardom and stature. His beloved on the other hand with her post-wedding glow evident, looked resplendent in a stunning Anamika Khanna cape gown. I liked how she went for the completely traditional look for her wedding and fused it up with a modern zing for her reception. Mallika Bhat highlighted her beauty with the smoky eye make-up. With her pastel palette and simplistic style, Mira won our hearts to be the trend setting bride of this year.
The Mumbai Reception
A grand reception is expected to take place on 12th July in Mumbai, where the newlyweds will celebrate with their friends from the industry complete with the glitterati. Rumor has it that the new Mrs. Kapoor will wear a Manish Malhotra outfit. How can a B-Town wedding be complete without some Manish Malhotra right? 😉 Come back here for the updates!
Update: Mira wore a Manish Malhotra lehenga skirt with a crop top. The oversized blue floral motifs worked really well against the creme and pearl details. We loved the outfit. Shahid looked dapper in a three piece suit too. And the couple looks so much in love!
Our heartiest congratulations once again to this beautiful couple and may their joy and good fortune multiply manifold with the years to come! Cheers! 😀
